TLBOH [Interview] Eibon Press talks Fulci gore-soaked Comics

Something wicked has come your way; Eibon Press are releasing Lucio Fulci-inspired limited edition collectors comic books, and if you don’t know about it already – where the hell have you been?! Fulci most definitely LIVES.

These iconic pieces are going to be a must-have for every avid horror fan of all giallo cinema when Fulci’s most infamous and goriest moments are coming to a new life, blood-splattered across the pages in their most beautiful form yet! I caught up with Stephen Romano, one of the founders, to discuss horror, cheesy dubbing and what the controversial Lucio Fulci himself would think of Eibon Press!

– A huge welcome for Eibon Press to Elite Mag! Tell us what exactly it is you have in store for us horror fans this summer?

Well, we’ve got some retro blood and guts on tap for sure! We’re big fans of 1980s horror and Lucio Fulci, so we’ve taken his most well-known horror film – in fact, one of the most legendary and notorious horror films of all time – and we’ve made it into the most ass-kicking movie comic you’ve ever seen! It’s an on-going premium collector’s comic series based on Lucio Fulci’s ZOMBIE, and the first issue hits public air in July. I want to make it clear that this will not be available as a digital download, nor will it be like any other printed comic you’ve ever seen. These are really awesome books with innovative printing and packaging that make them instant collector’s items. Plus, we’ve done a pretty great job with what’s on the pages, if I do say so. This begins a new age of Fulci Comics, with issue 2 coming for Halloween, and a series based on Fulci’s CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD (GATES OF HELL) in early 2017. We’re rolling out the first two issues of ZOMBIE slowly, to gauge fan reaction and get the buzz going, but I guarantee you’ll be just blown the hell away by the first two issues. The artists have done absolutely amazing work.

You have taken the beautiful gore-soaked set pieces and made them into artwork; which scene in particular would you say inspired you the most, and was the most exciting to get down onto paper?

It’s funny you mention that, because in addition to the most well-loved mayhem that’s actually in the film version of ZOMBIE, we’ve added quite a few nasty visions of our own, expanding and refining the story into a new medium. But we’re not just throwing new stuff in all willy nilly – it’s been carefully written and designed to really accentuate what’s in the movie. Issue 1 actually begins with the voodoo witch doctor of Matool being summoned from a pit of living death and dis-emboweling an infant baby! Which is very Fulci, you know? Then of course, there are the most beloved scenes of carnage. Our vision of the Shark Vs. Zombie scene in issue 2 is way cool – and what’s even cooler is that if you can’t wait for October to see it, there’s a big preview of that scene in our quarterly magazine THE BOOK OF EIBON, which will be out at about the same time Issue 1 hits!

Dubbed dialogue in Italian cinema can be extremely entertaining; what are some of your favourite quotes?

Again, it’s a little ironic you mention all that, because as the writer of ZOMBIE, one of my mission goals was to make it all a little less surreal in that way and slightly more “human.” I re-invented all the characters in the story, for example, and gave them actual backstory and personality beyond what they were in the movie. We’re not playing this for laughs. This is a dead-serious horror story with the courage of its convictions. But, yes, the dialogue in those films can be downright surreal. A point in fact is that it’s not usually because of the English actors dubbing the lines. Most of those films were shot with English speaking performers – to cover the international market, you know? But they’d have such impenetrable accents that they’d need to use looping guys later. That happened even with Sergio Leone movies! But the reason the dialogue was always so arch and corny was because the guys actually writing that dialogue were people whose second languages were English! It makes the experience of watching one of those films completely surreal and unique – one might even say otherworldly. It’s one of the great treats of an Italian horror film of the 1980s, actually.

My favourite line in ZOMBIE is the most iconic line:  “The boat can leave now. Tell the crew” – which, of course, is spoken dead seriously by a British actor. That dark tone was what we were striving for with the comic series. There are a few funny moments, too, but it’s all on purpose. I think we’ve taken the best of what these films were going for and made it sing in a new way that is reverent and progressive at the same time.

Fulci most definitely lives, but if he was here today, what do you think he would say about Eibon Press?

He’d love it.  There are dead babies on page 3 (Laughs). And by the way, the very first page of Issue 2 goes even more berserk with an image that will truly separate the weak from the strong. It’s really over the top. Fulci never flinched in his films and so we go even further. I have to say, if he were alive today, we’d actually be in touch with him. We’d want his blessings and his input on this stuff. My partner Shawn met him in NYC before he died and bought all his drinks! Apparently, he was a very interesting man. He had a habit of talking through his own movies in screenings – like really obnoxiously LOUD – and the audience would scream at him to shut up and he would yell “FUCK YOU!”  Stuff like that, mad genius behavior. Amazing. When we do these comics, we’re always thinking of how he might react, and we think we’re mostly getting it right. I wanted to do a remake of ZOMBIE before we started on these comics, had the whole thing scripted and storyboarded. It would have been the ultimate tribute to Fulci. He would have been amazed at how many fans he still has today, I think.

Finally, is there anything you would like to share with Elite readers?

I’d like to point out again that innovation is key at Eibon Press. We’re a small indie company and our print runs are very low, but what we do is of the highest, most professional calibre. We don’t run our books through the print-on-demand machine. We make really slick collector’s item comics designed to give fans and non-fans a great experience, both with reading and owning some great books. The most innovative thing we have is the EIBON SLEEVE, which is a vinyl album style jacket that each issue of each comic comes packaged in. The whole thing is shrink-wrapped and stickered just like one of these cool collectible record albums you see these days.  That’s something ever done before in the history of comics.  Also, you won’t find our books in ANY store. It’s all exclusive to our website, which launches on June 10.  We’re taking the time and care to do some truly amazing things and we hope you’ll come along for the ride!

TLBOH [Interview] Eric Fox of Face Off talks Horror FX

Legendary Eric Fox, contestant on Season Four of SyFy show Face Off, chats to TLBOH on all things horror, up-coming projects, and how sex toys would be the most horrifying items he could find heading towards him during a tornado!

Hi Eric, welcome to Elite! What have you been up to since Face Off?

Since face off life has been crazy. We’ve had the opportunity to jump from one awesome project to the next. Face Off was definitely life changing and it gave the world a small glimpse of what I can do.

Evil Dead is a huge favorite of yours, but what other 80s horror movies inspire your work?

Growing up watching mostly 80s horror, slasher and sci-fi gave me a true appreciation for the craft of films such as American Werewolf in London, The Thing, Robocop, Star Wars and never to forget Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th. I think that is one of the reasons I am so diverse in what I and my team at Morb-X FX Lab can do – one day we’re making exploding heads, while the next day making animatronic robots!

Outside of Horror, what are your interests?

Other than FX, some of my other great interests are my kids, family and friends. I am heavily into Ufology (study of UFOs) as well as study of conspiracy theory. As an artist and free thinker I often question what does not make sense and the powers that be.

Your pieces on Face Off were some of the BIGGEST and most ambitious, have you continued this approach out in the field?

I always used the bigger and badder approach, even before Face Off. As someone who has an appreciation for the craft and the art I push myself to give the most bang for the buck. I try taking new approaches while maintaining old school practical roots.

What is one of the WORST horror movies you’ve seen, or can you find something good in everything?

As a true optimist I always find the bright side to all. If a movie is that horrible I find it a great resource tool of what not to do.

02

If you could make a movie using one of your Face Off characters, which would you choose and what would the title be?

That’s easy…It would be my creation from the second challenge, the super hero challenge, Dick Gritty, my retro-futuristic private detective secret agent character and the title would be “Dick Gritty, You Don’t Know Dick”.

On the show you had a very infectious laugh! What horror comedy has made you laugh the most?

Evil Dead was a classic along with Army Of Darkness; in fact, looking back at any 80s horror films there are many laughable moments – not always intentional but still funny. As far as modern horror comedies go…Boy scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (trampoline scene) was one of the best recently.

03

You worked on Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, other than a shark, what would be the most terrifying thing you could see flying towards you during a tornado?

A bunch of sex toys…”Dilnado” would be a horrible film!

Finally, is there anything you would like to share with The Little Blog of Horror?

Makeup effects and art in general has played a big part in my life. I always envisioned myself as a creator. Creators and innovators are the people that shape the future that form ideas and shape opinions. Art has kept me out of a lot of trouble growing up because there was always something positive to focus on. As an artist I find inspiration in many things…mostly from nature and elements of my surroundings. The younger generation has it a lot easier to find information with youtube and google about the industry and there are numerous books available. That was not the case in the early 80s when I was trying to get my start. There was a lot of sneaking into my mom’s makeup and talking my friends into letting me put plaster on their faces. I am greatly inspired when I see young kids getting into this field and posting their videos online because it reminds me of my early days and how I got my start. And now I am living the dream and getting to work on great movies, TV shows and becoming friends with the rock stars and actors that I admire. One day we are making cute animatronic kitten heads for TV shows as well as rubber dolphins for Shark Week, and the next day I am on set gluing alien dicks on for Rob Zombie. Face Off was an amazing catalyst for what already existed inside me and I am grateful for the world wide exposure yet I know there is more greatness to come. I am having crazy fun breaking down the boundaries and keeping it classy.

Our Picks for the WWE Draft

$

0

So the WWE draft is looming upon us and I for one am fucking excited, why am I excited you say? Well get a brew, get comfy and I shall enlighten you my friends. The WWE Draft is where shit gets turned upside down and superstars from Raw and Smackdown (and ECW in the past drafts) get “drafted” to a brand where they will stay until the shows merge again or until they come up with some other storyline.

They also have stuff like brand rivalries which can make for awesome Survivor Series matches and PPV’s. But wait there is more! This can also mean a few new titles, and everyone likes a new title right? We also have the NXT roster to pick from too aaaaand Smackdown also goes live again So yeah that’s the basics down for you.

On to business so let me give you the low down and what I reckon you might be jumping off your sofas and pissing the neighbours off to, and what you should probably not build your hopes up for in the 2016 Draft on July 19th.

I shall start with those rumors of new signings and returning wrestlers, First up your Olympic Hero Kurt fucking Angle, oh it’s true! Now “Kurt Angle?! Fuck off!!” you might be thinking, but hear me out. I’m thinking as he has posted online about it and he doesn’t talk shit and not deliver, that’s not how our Olympic Hero roles! We also have American Alpha with Jason Jordan busting the straps down and then chucking out ankle locks all over the place, and come on they would be a fucking perfect team, all American wrestlers with their hero guiding them. Plus WWE needs more talent for this draft and Alpha they lost to The Revival for the 2nd time failing to regain the NXT tag titles back making them also one of my other prime NXT picks that will also be brought up to the main roster. Even if there is no Angle as he has said since the brand split he has had no contact with the WWE, but that could just be a curveball to throw us off the scent as the deal could be done and therefore no need for more contact. But I think we are in with a good chance of seeing American Alpha on Raw or Smackdown.

Next up is Goldberg, Yup Big Bill has been all over the new WWE 2K17 video game promo videos and shit, and it’s pretty safe to say when we see this stuff the person in question usually has some involvement other than just being in the video game. BUT i’m not sure about Goldberg showing up at the draft, it’s hard to think who he could legit feud with. So with that said as much as I’d love to see him jackhammer some fools, I don’t think we will see him at this draft. If we are lucky we might see an appearance at Mania.

BROTHER NEROOOOOOO!!! Even though Jeff Hardy may have been deleted by Harry Potter, If my memory serves me right he re-signed his contract back in Jan with TNA, which would still make him under contract and with the recent spate of TNA guys deciding to jump ship over to NXT, I don’t think Dixie would lightly let go of Jeff, but I could be wrong, some crazy shit happens in wrestling.

Another guy rumored to turn up is a guy so fucking cool he can go into slow motion! With an impressive haul of the ECW title, three time Intercontinental champion and FIVE TIME tag team championship holder, Johnny Mundo! Aka John Morrison (or some of you may remember him from the MNM days, Jonny Nitro) For those who know what’s good for you and watch Lucha Underground you will know that he’s been killing it there recently, and even going down on record as saying he could go back to the WWE. However I think the slow motion master will be staying at the Temple for now, along with his buddy Rey Mysterio who I believe is also under contract and killing it also, so that’s those two dealt with, next.

The straight up “baller” Montel Vontavious Porter / MVP is also on the hot list of people to appear, Now whilst he did sign with Lucha Underground in March it went a big fucky for MVP as in April he was released for accidentally violating his contract by interviewing other members of the roster on his podcast which apparently broke his NDA agreement. He is taking indie bookings still by the looks of his twitter however, but with that being said and the draft looming fast he could be ballin’ his way back to the WWE.

Spitting in the faces of dicks who don’t want to be cool, blast from the past Carlito is also on this list, he’s openly said he wants to come back and that he’s in the best shape of his life in a video interview. So it would be sick and a potential reality that we may see Carlito back spitting apple all up in your face n shit again, and let’s face it the Shining Stars could do with a little boost too and who better to lead them than Carlito!

Another potential return could be from one of my personal favourites and who I feel was under used at WWE is the mother fucking Gold Standard Shelton Benjamin. As he has just finished a tour of Japan and is a free agent he is a potential. However he seems pretty settled in Japan so I think it’s more wishful thinking as I’d love nothing more that to see Shelton taking on KO, or AJ Styles, that shit would be fucking sick!

Right there is no money in fucking about, so on to the NXT superstars who I reckon will get the call up to big school.

The Demon Finn Balor. Having a long ass 292 day run with the NXT title which he has failed to get back off Samoa Joe on several occasions recently I think means he ain’t getting that belt back. Couple that with his match against Nakamura too which means he ain’t reaching for that gold. Then of course we have his boys The Club – Gallows, Anderson and Styles are all up there already just waiting for a Bullet Club original to join his place back at the table. Again with the WWE being short on people I think he’s a good shout to appear and fuck some shit up.

A wild card is Shinsuke Nakamura, who even though he is on a mission to become NXT champion by beating Balor on this quest for greatness. Now the reason i’m chucking him into the mix is that the WWE likes to drop storylines like an RKO out of nowhere if they need to. So it would not surprise me if we saw the King of Strong Style smashing some main roster heads in after the draft as well.

I mentioned American Alpha above with Kurt Angle so that’s them covered.

Now another overly happy hugger who we might see is Bailey, who after her decent 223 day title run ended, causing her young super fan Izzy to have a meltdown and crowning Asuka as the new women’s NXT champion. She’s in my list as I feel with the split of the brands they need to bulk the roster out in the women’s division as well as the men’s so who better to bring up than a crowd favourite and merch machine Bailey.

So thats what im saying, but as always with WWE who the fuck knows what they will throw at us. We would be keen to hear your thoughts on the prediction and what you think will go down too!

Having only been formed little over a year, Sheffield based Six-piece Metalcore band, One Year Dead have already had the chance to play Sheffield’s very own Tramlines festival, the band are ploughing through 2016 with string of upcoming shows and a weekend tour with MC Devvo. Be sure to check out their latest single ‘Most Days’!
www.facebook.com/oneyeardead

_____________________________________________

Introduce yourself! Who are you and where did it all begin?
We are One Year Dead! We started out in May 2015 with 5 members (Ben, Jamie, Sam, Lewis and Jak). As we progressed we started to get a feel for the music we wanted to create and this made us feel that we would need to look for a 6th member. This is when Dave got invited to help out the band with his clean vocals, we all came to an agreement for Dave to stick with the band and carry on as a 6 piece metal core band.

How would you describe your sound in just 3 words?
Energetic, melodic, diverse

What has been your biggest highlight as a band so far?
Our biggest highlight so far would be releasing our e.p “You’ll Never Make It Home” back in February 2016, we released it at corporation to a sold out show.

Looking back at every song you’ve ever written as a band, which is your favourite to play and why?
Our most favourite song to play would have to be “Broken” which is on our e.p. The reason for this is there is a very lot of variation in this song which shows how diverse we can be. It’s a fun song to play, very melodic and ends with a big sounding breakdown.

If you could play at any festival in the world, where would you pick?
Obviously it’s going to be Download! It’s a festival we’ve all grown up watching, it’s got a bit everything and surely it’s every metal bands dream to play at download.

Who are your biggest musical influences?
We have quite of a wide range of music tastes in the band from folk to metal, but in terms of us writing we’d have to say, All That Remains, Machine Head, Trivium, Bury Tomorrow, While She Sleeps, Every time I Die and A Day To Remember.

If you could form a ‘super group’ with any other band on this year’s line-up, who would you pick?
If we could form a super group, we would attempt to form one with Lonely Island, they have something about them that no other group have, and we could potentially go down the route of a metal core hip hop track with some comedy gold behind the lyrics.

What would be your ideal tour line-up?
If we had the opportunity to play a line up with any band out there, we’d have to choose Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head, While She Sleeps, A Day To Remember and Bullet For My Valentine.

What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
At the minute we are looking at getting our next e.p recorded and released, hopefully sometime within the new year, we have plans for filming a video for “testify” which is an unreleased song and hopefully will be released very shortly with our debut video. Long term plans, just carry on what we have been doing for the last year and fingers crossed we will make something out of what we have created as a band.

We catch up with guitarist Pin for the A-Z of SikTh ahead of their hellacious set at 2000 Trees!

Album – What was the first ever album you bought?

Cannibal Corpse’s The Bleeding, when I was about 7. …While I don’t think I knew what was going on I quite liked the sound, and at that time the imagery, it was just that sort of disgusting bloody cover. I probably thought that will be really offensive to my parents, and well that was it, and [I] took it home, and was like alright, that’s fucking awful!

Boredom – What do you do to cure boredom on long drives between shows on tour?

With SikTh we’re quite civilised so it tends to be Alan Partridge… Read more in Issue 78

TLBOH – The Shallows [Review]

$

0

It’s no secret I’m an absolute sucker for any film with a big monster, rabid dog/bear/rat-monkey, dinosaur, or most of all, a monster beneath the sea. Not many things make me feel uneasy and I don’t believe in anything spiritual, so often the supernatural in horror movies doesn’t evoke too much fear in me, however the ocean is petrifying. A murky, dark, never-ending abyss chocked full of the unknown? No thank you, I’ll stay on land.

So when they announced the release of The Shallows, I’m first in line, and I don’t particularly care if the concept is ridiculous, or if the budget was $100; if it has a killer shark in it, I’ll watch it. I even went to see Shark Night 3D [however much I lived to regret it]. The constant hunt for a shark on the big screen that is remotely passable for the real thing goes on and on, and recently as computers have taken over, and is by far the cheaper option, the lack of real shark shots or animatronics has been all too painfully evident. So I went in expecting the worst; perhaps not Sharknado, not quite Deep Blue Sea, and most definitely not Jaws, but I left entertained and wanting more.

Blake Lively does her best with a very simple albeit effective thriller narrative, but the real star of the show is the cinematography, which from the start is spectacular [however much the tech product placement is repeatedly force-fed to the audience]. The camera shows us things no other sea-based movie has with its breath-taking underwater imagery, and impressive special effects. Throughout the 1 hour 27 minutes the shark feels very much alive, threatening and most of all SOLIDLY real within the setting.

This is a must see in a cinema setting for any shark-movie fan, or for anyone that has ever felt uneasy at the thought of things that lurk beneath the waves like I have.

_____________________________________________

Introduce yourself! Who are you and where did it all begin?
We are Alive In Lights, a 4 piece hard rock band from Kent. Myself (Jay) and Scott (vocals/guitar) started this project when our last band Up For The Letdown ended. We wanted to create music that we loved to play and write, not just what would get us noticed or what a popular at the time. We really feel a have achieved that and are continuing to improve on that as we go.

How would you describe your sound in just 3 words?
Balldropping catchy riffage

What has been your biggest highlight as a band so far?
I think our biggest highlight so far was supporting 48 Hours at Camden Barely, not just because of playing a prestigious world famous venue but meeting such great people and making new friends with such a great band. It was a great show.

Looking back at every song you’ve ever written as a band, which is your favourite to play and why?
For me personally it would have to be Beautiful You from our new EP. It’s different to our general sound and the end is sounds so epic. Tho as a band probably Brighter Days as it’s full of energy and and great riffs it’s a good song to play.

If you could play at any festival in the world, where would you pick?
Obviously we would have to pick Download. One of the best in the world right here at home. Although I’d say Vans Warped Tour would be a very close second.

Who are your biggest musical influences?
Our influences are so varied from each member. We all bring different styles of Influences such as Memphis May Fire, Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin, Metallica, Issues and Slipknot to name a few. Even Tho Scott is obsessed with Disney songs we manage to keep it Rock.

If you could form a ‘super group’ with any other band who would you pick?
That’s a difficult one, I think we would all have different ideas of who we’d love to do that with. At this point tho I don’t think a would be that picky as any opportunity we would grab with both hands.

What would be your ideal tour line-up?
We recently actually became big fans of Chasing Cadence, such great musicians and incredible songwriting skills. We would love to be on a line Up with those guys. We have made so many good friends with bands we have played with and touring with any of those we would have blast.

What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
We are already planning out next EP and a video. Plenty more gigs further out into the UK and hopefully a tour next year. We have so many ideas a want to put out there and we will do everything a can to make it happen.

Yeah that’s fucking right, it’s been 2 years or so since he signed with the UFC but now it’s finally time! I for one am rooting for the former sixth longest reigning WWE champion as he steps in the octagon with Mickey Gall who is currently 2-0 in his pro mma career.

Now Gall is no chump that’s for sure! He’s one dangers ma fucker, Nomesayin?! So be prepared to possibly see Punk get absolutely fucked to bits! And don’t say I didn’t bloody warn you. But we here at Elite and certainly myself BELIEVE IN THE BEST IN THE WORLD!

So can Phil drop the ultimate pipe bomb, clobber Gall and silence everyone? I fucking hope so and not just because I’ve got money on the cunt! Never underestimate the underdog either! So don’t be surprised if you are laughing all the fucking way to the bank my free cash loving chums. And if you can bet on him coming out to Cult of Personality his old WWE theme fuck it! Chuck a quid or two on that as I think he’s going to, just to piss people off.

Happy betting fuckers!

TLBOH – Don’t Breathe Review

So, let’s talk about 2016. After the success of 10 Cloverfield Lane, and then the catastrophe that was Light’s Out [which is still getting commendable reviews much to my confusion], I had no idea what to expect with Don’t Breathe, as this year has been a crazy year for horror with hits and misses. The trailer for Don’t Breathe, it was refreshing and inventive; this isn’t a prequel, sequel or a remake, just finally a stand-alone film that I wasn’t quite sure the film industry created for cinema release anymore.

On the topic of remakes, it was obvious one would draw comparison to Alvarez’s remake of Evil Dead [2013], which in the cinema impressed me; I found it to be a very innovative take on the classic and I for one didn’t believe it had tainted the original – although I’m not sure everyone agreed with me. Upon re-watching it recently, I was a little disappointed to see it hasn’t stood the test of time, even over a just a few years, but the one thing that hadn’t expired was Jane Levy’s acting. So when I was to discover they had teamed up again for Don’t Breathe, I knew we were in for a treat regardless of how anything else panned out. After seeing it last night, the comparisons stop there, and whereas Evil Dead was a nice piece of stylised horror-nasty good fun, Don’t Breathe is a gripping, tense horror-thriller that heads more in the direction of outlandish realism.

The narrative is fast-moving and doesn’t linger long over backstories or overstretch itself – just enough to give us a little insight into characters motives before we have entered the blind man’s home; our fundamental setting. The movie did fail to take the advantage of focusing more time over exploiting our fears, using the link between darkness and blindness. Expertly cast, Stephen Lang creates a formidable presence as the blind antagonist, and he is by far the most intriguing personality in the feature. Witnessing how someone can become so adept at navigating around their home blind, like an animal in the dark, made for a very fascinating hunt that could have been extended more effectively, as the trailer edit suggests. These brief scenes were amongst my favourite in the feature.

The movie continues its fast-pace throughout, cramming in a batch of plot-twists in the mere 88 minutes. The movie isn’t without flaws, and there is one “plot twist” in particular [if you have seen you will know what I’m talking about] that I found sorely preposterous, but I accept that without it the movie would have been predictable. The open-ending suggests more of a “room for thought” than a sequel, however Alvarez has released an alternate ending that shows a sequel could very much be on the cards, whether we like it or not.

_____________________________________________

Introduce yourself! Who are you and where did it all begin?
We are I, The Dreamer; a melodic post-hardcore band from Birmingham UK, we like to take the heavy stuff and make it catchy as hell! We began when James, Toby, and Matt got together to play a few songs that Matt had been working on over last summer. We had a juggle with the kind of line-up we wanted and we decided to bring in Alex to front the band, and with him, he brought Jack to take on lead guitar.

How would you describe your sound in just 3 words?
If this was a job interview we’d say “Punctual, Practical, and Passionate” but as this is Elite we’ll say “Hot and Heavy!”

What has been your biggest highlight as a band so far?
We’d have to say our debut show at The Rainbow Venues Birmingham on the 16th of July. All of the bands on the bill were amazing and there was so much support there for us, even with only a few tracks released everyone there was loving it, which meant the world to us. Though we’d also mention the day we shot our first music video, an entire day in a photography studio with such good people was very memorable.

Looking back at every song you’ve ever written as a band, which is your favourite to play and why?
We all have different favourites to play when we rehearse, but at our gig, we’d have to say our latest single ‘Old Souls’ went down the best. It’s also the song we feel best summarises our sound.

If you could play at any festival in the world, where would you pick?
We’d love to hit up all the big festivals in the world, again, we all have our personal favourites. If we had to pick we’d most probably say warped tour, not only because we’d fit right in, but because there are so many dates to play! Or is that being cheeky?

Who are your biggest musical influences?
We draw a lot of musical influence from American bands of the genre like Sleeping With Sirens and We Came As Romans, but like to combine it with a British rock production style. The story-based narratives of our lyrics come from years of listening to bands like Deaf Havana and Mallory Knox.

If you could form a ‘super group’ with any other band on this year’s line-up, who would you pick?
We think the best ‘super group’ would be if Toby just played every instrument in a fifty-piece orchestra except drums, which will be played by Chris Turner from Oceans Ate Alaska

What would be your ideal tour line-up?
It would consist of Jonah Hill opening the shows with some slam poetry. Main support would be the Frosties kid, and we’d be co-headlining with Rick Astley. But if we want something more plausible we think the guys from Don Broco would be great fun to tour with, also Bring Me The Horizon and we’ll see if we can borrow their orchestra, and Oceans Ate Alaska because they are sick.

What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
We’re currently writing and recording our upcoming EP ‘Shadow Hearts’ which will be out mid-Autumn this year. We’re hoping to bolster that release with gigs, our next one in Birmingham is on the 30th of October with Grumble Bee at the Sunflower Lounge. You can get tickets of our Big Cartel.

TLBOH – Resident Evil 7

So last night we had a chance to play the new teaser for Resident Evil 7, and it had me gripped from the first moment! The first person gameplay, with only a torch to guide you, is extremely eerie and daunting, making you turn every corner with bated breath. It is insane how far horror games have come in recent years. The realism is breath-taking, and the simplicity in the scares is what makes it so effective. It has all the traditional aspects of a horror movie; a creepy old house, dark shadows and moving mannequins, an old video tape you find, watch and also navigate yourself, it takes Resident Evil back to where it all started and is far more terrifying than most horror films! Roll on January when the full game is released, I for one cannot wait!
